A fruitful garden does not begin with a shopping list. It begins with understanding. Garden Foundations teaches you how to recognize the natural systems already shaping your growing space and how to work with them wisely.
You will learn how location and climate influence timing, how soil and water affect plant health, how to select and preserve seeds, how plants function, and how the garden can nourish both the body and the community. By the end of the course, you will be better prepared to make informed decisions rather than relying on guesswork.

Module 1.1
Introduction to The Promised Garden
Discover the school’s vision and faith-centered approach to stewardship. Explore the Global Spheres Center campus and the relationship among soil, water, seed, purposeful work, and abundance.
Module 1.2
Ecoregion and Climate Understanding
Locate your garden within latitude, longitude, time, climate, biome, and growing zones. Learn to read climate maps, recognize microclimates, and assess the landscape for better timing and plant selection.
Module 1.3
Soil Understanding
Study soil horizons, texture, composition, pH, nutrients, phenology, and growing degree days. Use practical tools such as the jar test and layered soil-building methods to strengthen your garden from the ground up.
Module 1.4
Watershed Understanding
Understand how water moves through natural, rural, and urban landscapes. Explore water quality, the urban water cycle, conservation, irrigation, and responsible use in the garden.
Module 1.5
Seed Understanding
Compare heirloom, hybrid, GMO, and organic seeds. Learn why seed diversity matters and how to harvest, store, share, and preserve seeds from one growing cycle to the next.

Plant Understanding
